#49 SNARF ATTACK

Snarf is feeling unappreciated. Interrupting his pity party is a distress call from the Berbils, and since everyone else is gone, Snarf decides to come to the rescue. It's not long before he runs into the Berzerkers and is in quite a predicament himself.
Meanwhile, Kit and Kat return to the Lair to find a note Snarf left and are off to find him. But rather than face the pirates as themselves, the Kittens disguise themselves as Lion-O to scare them off. Snarf is rescued and all is well.

The Berbils are tired of being attacked and since they know the Thundercats can't guard them around the clock, they build a giant likeness of themselves called the Berbillion. When Lion-O goes to collect some Berbil fruit, the Sword makes the Berbillion react and it is soon out of control. Lion-O has to destroy it and most of the village to save everyone.

Reprint of US issue #19
The first area of the comic deals with a slight re-telling of the Doomgaze episode (Click here for a synopsis). Do note, the notion that Tashe and Mumm-Ra are siblings is in the comic (e.g. Mumm-Ra refers to her as "blood of my blood" and part two is eluded to as "Sister Mumm-Ra"), whereas it wasn't made apparent in the series episode.
The issue only tells half the story before going on to a separate tale, entitled Ghost Machine. While out hunting, Lion-O and Tygra come upon an abandoned space craft that is not their own. Before they even get inside the ship, a beam hones in on the Eye within the Sword and plucks it out. Lion-O and Tygra have no choice but to pursue it into the wrecked craft. Inside, Tygra finds a video game of sorts about choices, and Lion-O gets pulled into a telescreen. Tygra leaps in to follow him and that's where part 1 of this adventure ends.

Reprint of US issue #19
This tells the reast of the Doomgaze story, with some mild variations such as Cheetara being too busy dealing with the man-o-war cloud to save Lion-O. He manages to break the Doomgaze himself.
Also included is part two of Ghost Machine, which also appeared in an issue of Thundercats magazine. Tygra and Lion-O team up in the strange new world to get back the Eye of Thundera. They soon realize they're in a digitized verion of Third Earth.
Tygra notices several things - they "copies" of things on Third Earth are flawed, and any foes such as Mutants and such shatter like glass when attacked. He's also perplexed by the way Lion-O mixes up some phrases when he speaks. He soon realizes that the Lion-O he'd been following is a fake - part of the weird landscape - when they run into the so-called real Lion-O.

This issue is a reprint of the US issued comic #20 (Click here for that review). However, it also contains part three of an extra story at the end called Ghost Machine. The two ThunderCats are stuck in some kind of bizarro world where there's a real and slightly-imperfect fake of everything, and must use their smarts to escape alive.

This issue is concludes the reprint of the US issued comic #20 (Click here for that review). Following is a short called Unforgettable Snarf. Basically, Lion-O and Snarf discover the Mutants are tunneling somewhere but when they confront their enemies Snarf is hit on the head in the skirmish. He then develops amnesia, only remembering that his "name is Snarf and he looks stupid in bandages". I laughed when Snarf quipped that Lion-O sounds like something you'd cover the floor with. Anyway, the tunnel leads to the Lair, and the Mutants attack again. In that skirmish, Snarf is bopped on the head again and so regains his memory. The Mutants are run off and everyone laughs at a bad joke in the end.

This issue covers the first half of the US Star comic #21 (Click here for that review). It also contains a short story-comic called Attack of the ThunderTank. In it, Panthro's pouting because he's been elected to take the Tank and go pick Berbil fruit. Suddenly, the Tank starts rolling, seemingly going after Panthro and even firing on him. When he finally boards the runaway Tank, his ire is softened when he finds a Berbil behind the mischief. It seems the Berbil fell into the Tank from a tree, tripped the ignition, and pressed every conceivable button trying to halt it. Though the Berbil is forgiven, Panthro is too embarrassed to tell the other ThunderCats how he got so beat up picking fruit.

This story also appears in the 92 Annual. Basically, it's a cross between Jack and the Beanstalk and Gulliver's Travels. In it, WilyKat discovers little critters that are stealing food from the Lair. These tiny elf-looking fellows manage to tie Kat down and hold him prisoner in a hollow tree until Lion-O rescues him. In the end, they all make nice.

This tells the Dream Master story, which was based on the episode of the same name. It follows the teleplay pretty closely; basically Mumm-Ra snares teh Thundercats' dream selves, making the waking Thundercats sleep deprived and unreliable. Cheetara's thoughts on the importance of dreams was interesting.

Lion-O is rapidly aging within the cave of time. As he grows old, he thinks back to the events that got him there. Hours before, the Thundercats discussed their Thundrillium supplies and how to get more or their equipment wouldn't work much longer. Panthro mentions the events of issue 29, but Lion-O reminds him they couldn't take all that Thundrillium without sacrificing the Sub-men. The cave of time is mentioned but after what had happened to Tygra in Trouble with Time, the idea is nixed.
They split up to find a deposit. Lion-O encounters some strangleweed and the Mutant Fistpounder. Part 1 concludes there.
Also included is a text story called Deserted, which is an adaptation of the "ThunderCats Ho!" movie which of course tells the tale of how the new Thundercats came to be on Third Earth.
