The Thundercats are hanging out at the Lair on New Thundera when they're shaken by earth tremors. Jaguara comes on their telescreen shortly thereafter to explain that the gyroscope is acting wonky and that's she's too overworked and tired to keep it under control much longer. Being on the job 24/7 since the beginning of time will do that, you see.
So, how do you give a poor ageless soul like Jaguara a break? Call in a gyroscope engineer! Bengali and Cheetara fly in this self-proclaimed SAP (Self-Acting Phenomenon), rather than a robot, is quite a hap-hazard fellow as he speaks with a lisp and has one leg screwed on backward. The Thundercats aren't all that impressed until he tells his history (he put down a long-ago uprising single handed haha) and brags about what makes him tick. Unfortunately, all the bragging tips Mumm-Ra off on how he can best take control of the situation thanks to his spy, Ma-Mutt, in the form of a fly.
Mumm-Ra conjurs up his own logic condensor to replace within Screw Loose so that he may control him. Mumm-Ra travels to the Great Beneath and while Screw Loose is alone, switches his condensor. He does call for help, but when Kit and Jaguara go to see what's wrong, Mumm-Ra morphs into a Panthro disguise and Screw Loose doesn't say anything because the new condensor has taken effect. He is a lot less friendly, but otherwise, Jaguara and Kit don't question it.
However, they're baffled when he starts acting bizarre and even sabotages the gyroscope. Lion-O, tipped off by the Sword's warning growl, sees the danger and goes to help. But Mumm-Ra also notices his arrival and plans to interfere any way he can. It's pretty clear that Screw Loose well - has a screw loose. But just as Lion-O arrives to help, Mumm-Ra appears. It's not long afterward that the Sword of Omens and Sword of Plundarr fight one another without their masters.
However, Lion-O grows tired of Screw Loose's I'm-good/I'm-bad act that he grabs the Sword of Omens, calls forth the power of the Eye, and heals him. This sends Mumm-Ra packing. However, he leaves without the Sword of Plundarr, and Screw Loose tosses it away.
In the end, the gyroscope is fixed and Panthro sets everything right with Screw Loose's logic condensor. What's more, Bengali promises to upgrade Screw Loose's mechanical parts so that Jaguara can always have someone to help her with her duties. For Mumm-Ra's part, the ASOE recover the Sword of Plundarr for him and so he is sure he'll return to defeat the ThunderCats another day.
"I've been on the job 24 hours, 7 days a week since time began." - Jaguara. Damn, that's some heavy overtime. She ought to unionize ;)
"What do you take me for you old hag? A moron? I've forgotten more about gyroscopes than you'll ever know!" - Screw Loose to Jaguara. And boy do we wish we could forget about gyroscopes!
"One day I'll squeeze you so hard your rivets will pop." - Mumm-Ra to Screw Loose.
