Perhap'n the staff indulged in a bit of silky fruit....this 'sode be trippy...

Mumm-Ra's latest plot involves use of the ancient Babylonian Barbarian Boiler to liquify Cats Lair, and he proceeds to tell his pooch, Ma-Mutt, all about it. Ma-Mutt is in the mood to play, however, and ends up making Mumm-Ra fall flat on his face. Furious, Mumm-Ra warns that one more mistake by the dog will get him ousted from the pyramid.

Mumm-Ra then begins to fill the Boiler with buckets of magical cauldron water in the hopes of setting his plot in motion. But Ma-Mutt screws up again when he drinks the water out of the bucket and goes a bit haywire as a result. Mumm-Ra, in his anger, banishes the pooch from his sight and the pyramid.

The Thunderkittens are taking Snarf and Snarfer for a ride on their space boards when they near the Forest of Darkness. Kit wants to explore the forest using the Cats Eyes that will allow her to see, but Snarf is hesitant. He's even more so when he hears some wailing coming from the Forest, which is coming from Ma-Mutt as he bumps into trees, trips over roots and finally, falls into a pit.

When the Kittens discover it's Ma-Mutt trapped in the hole, Kat wants to split thinking it's a trap. But Kit reminds him it's their duty to help, and so they rescue the dog and bring him back to the Lair. The others see them approaching and are baffled at how friendly they all seem. But before the kittens can go inside and explain, a ray hits the Lair and it starts melting - Mumm-Ra has struck!

The Boiler runs out of fluid, granting the Cats a reprieve from Mumm-Ra's attacks. The kittens think Ma-Mutt is trying to tell them something about the beam and want Panthro to invent some sort of translator so they can understand the dog, but Panthro and the other grown-ups don't think there's time. So Snarfer resolves to build a translator himself. In no time, he whips up what he calls 'SIS' - Snarfer's Interspecies System.

Snarfer volunteers Snarf to test it out, plunking a helmet on both his head and Ma-Mutt's. After some amusing Snarf electrocution moments (this ep gets points for that bwahahaha!) Ma-Mutt speaks, mentioning Mumm-Ra and the boiler. Mumm-Ra, having a hard time refilling the boiler on his own (I suppose it'd be too OBVIOUS for him to just use magic to move his cauldron water into the machine) calls for Ma-Mutt. When the pooch doesn't come running, he spies the dog in the cauldron waters and is enraged the dog is spilling his secrets to the Thundercats. He casts a spell so that now all Ma-Mutt will say is his name and dog license number. He then summons Ma-Mutt back to the pyramid to help him with the water.

During that time, the Thundercats had been working on a large version of Lynx-O's shield to ward off the next attack. And it's not too long until Mumm-Ra strikes again. Lion-O tries to block the beam with the shield and it holds - but barely. Mumm-ra responds by upping the boiler's power. Just before the shield gives way, Lion-O activates the Eye of Thundera. The shield and the ship disintegrate, and Lion-O falls - but the Sword remains with the insignia pushing the beam all the way back to the pyramid where it overloads the boiler, which explodes. Lion-O, in the meantime, managed to catch himself thanks to the claw line. Furthermore, the Sword's power heals the Lair so that it's as good as new. Enough already with the Sword as cure-all thing!

While the Thundercats have one of their cute episode-ending moments, Mumm-Ra frantically digs Ma-Mutt out of the rubble of the boiler and apologizes to his pet for abusing him before. He promises to make him the happiest horrible hound from here on out.

Fave Quotes:

"You are a worthless disgrace to all that's evil." - Mumm-Ra.

"We wouldn't be Thundercats if we refused to help someone just because it might be dangerous." - WilyKit.

"Oh goody goody goo drops. Everything I dreamed is coming true." - Mumm-Ra.

"In a few moments, Cats Lair will be an insignificant puddle in an ocean of history." - Mumm-Ra.

"This thing must have the worst gas mileage on New Thundera." - Mumm-Ra, on the Babylonian Boiler.

Canon Facts of Note:

This is the only episode in which Ma-Mutt speaks, thanks to Snarfer's translator.
