While out and about on New Thundera, the Thunderkittens happen upon a half-buried golden sphere and investigate. At the same time, Charr and his flying furnace are near and he detects gold in the area so he flies in to get a closer look. Meanwhile, Kit and Kat decide the sphere may be an important part of their heritage and decide to take it back to show the others. But, once they touch the sphere, something comes over them that seems to make them selfish and wanting to keep the sphere for themselves.
In the meantime, Mumm-Ra's attention is also drawn to the sphere. He recognizes it as the Golden Sphere of Seti which was an object he once possessed ages ago. The sphere gave him strength beyond what the ASOE have ever granted him, making him four times as big and powerful as before. Naturally, he wants to get the sphere back.
Yet it's not the Thunderkittens he has to battle for the sphere, but Charr. This is because, being the only "authorized" scrap metal detector on New Thundera, Charr figured he had rights to the sphere and uses some sort of magnetic device on his ship to take it from the kittens. Mumm-Ra transforms and has the ASOE crash the Flying Furnace so he can take the sphere.
While this is happening, the Thunderkittens regroup. They're still under the sphere's influence, for they know enough to get the Thundercats help but plot to steal the sphere for themselves after their friends do the "hard work". They go back to the Lair to tell their story to the adults - telling them all about the sphere and how Charr just stole it from them. Although the big 'Cats are skeptical as to why Charr, whom they're on friendly terms with, would steal from the kittens, they go to investigate anyway.
When they get there, Charr is outside his wrecked ship trying to repair it not knowing the Mumm-Ra is inside taking the sphere. They all arrive too late to stop Mumm-Ra, and he proves so powerful that the Sword of Omens' blade is shattered in the struggle. Considering them defeated, Mumm-Ra retires to his pyramid confident he will rule both Thundera and Third Earth. He does bite the hand that feeds him, however, when he decides the ASOE are too old school for him now that he has the sphere and sees this as his chance to break free from the old spirits.
The others have to decide what to do. Of course, the twins and Charr are still plotting ways to use the adult cats to help them gain the sphere back for themselves. They barter services - Charr will reforge the Sword if the Thundercats fix his ship, all the while he pretends to be sorry for stealing the sphere from the kittens in the first place. By the time everything is repaired, the ASOE had already gotten so peeved at Mumm-Ra for all his grandstanding, that they took the sphere from him and set it loose on New Thundera. The Thundercats and Charr locate it near the churning rocks, and Mumm-Ra has tracked it there, too (at first teh ASOE refused to transform him again so he could get the sphere, thinking he'll take them for granted again. He promises not to try to ditch them this time, so he's given their power once more). The race is on for the sphere!
Lion-O and Cheetara crash the whisker before they can stop Mumm-Ra, and so Lion-O signals for the others. In the meantime, Charr tries to use the magnet to grab the sphere from Mumm-ra. The cat signal snaps the kittens out of their greedy trance and they're wracked with guilt for trying to trick their friends. The Thunderstrike arrives in time to save them from the churning rocks, but Mumm-Ra makes off with the sphere.
But, when he tries to enter the pyramid, the ASOE stop him. They accuse him of trying to trick them again and although he swears he didn't, Mumm-Ra is forced to choose between being able to go 'home' to the pyramid or to surrender the sphere to the ASOE. Knowing he can't survive without rest in his sarcophogus, Mumm-Ra reluctantly gives over the sphere.
Afterward, Charr and the kittens both apologize for their bad behavior over the sphere and the Thundercats vow never to underestimate Mumm-Ra again.
"They are a redundant, usless relic of a bygone era." - Mumm-Ra on the ASOE.
In this episode, Kat clearly refers to Kit as 'sis', thus at least settling the notion that the kittens are siblings if not twins.
This episode marks the fourth and final time the blade on the sword is broken. Once again, Charr is the one who fixes it.
