I'm not sure why, but this episode has stuck out as a favorite and a well remembered one among the fans. The best thing we got out of this episode was learning more about Third Earth. Outside of the key fortresses and The Berbil Villiage, we haven't really seen too much up to this point. In this one we are introduced to The Warrior Maidens, who are very likable female characters. Willa is one of the T-Cats stronger allies despite the lack of paranormal abilities. We also get to see some new locations like the dreaded Cave of Time, and the Geizure of Life (which we never see again) and of course a little bit of the Tree Top Kingdom. This is also the first episode in which The Mutants get to show their comedic side. Some of the back and forth bantering is quite amusing, and the bit with the sleep gas is kind of funny as well. Monkian steals the show among the Terrible Trio.

I love this story for a number of reasons. Lion-O joyriding in the ThunderTank always reminds me of the teenager who takes the family car without permission. Larry Kenney gives Lion-O natural-sounding speech spiced with the character's "I'm Lord of the ThunderCats" egotism. The animation is much better, making Lion-O actually handsome instead of just a big bruiser. And the Mutants still want the Sword, and fail once more to wrest it away from Lion-O. I didn't like Willa being made to coveniently fall out of the tree so Lion-O can save her from the attacking T-Rex. That little touch of sexism shouldn't have been in there; it's the wrong thing to teach kids.

There's another reason why I think this episode is so popular with the fans. along with being handsome, Lion-O in this tale is quite charming. He's warm, personable, compassionate, and even sweet. Quite the nice guy instead of your usual big-bruiser superhero.
