Not bad, but not fabulotastic neither

The Mutants explore the area near the Maze of Infinity, having heard that was the place where Lion-O and the Thunderkittens will square off.

So now, not only does Lion-O have to deal with those rascally Thunderkittens, but the Mutants as well.

Basically, Lion-O and the Kittens trade off trying to trick each other into taking the wrong trail through the maze. And not only does Lion-O have to dodge the attacks from the Mutants, but also the perils of the maze.  In one instance, he slides down a chute and gets this funky diamond dust-type-stuff in his eyes which temporarily blinds him. He barely escapes Monkian's subsequent attack, only to find himself among a strange tribe of underground dwelling beings. The tribe is comprised of males who look and dress like old men. Their story is that they were forced underground because the powers that be feared their books. They go on to explain their huge, red bug-eyes are not because they own Third Earth's biggest bong, but because living underground has damaged their eyes to the point that they can no longer bear the light.

They  demand that Lion-O, as an "over-earth lord", read to them...like he has time to read stories, heehee. However, the shock treatment they dole out through their fingertips makes it hard for Lion-O to tell them to take their books and shove `em.

Monkian enters the scene on his skycutter and ends up setting the books on fire while trying to shoot at Lion-O. Lion-O leads Monkian away from that part of the maze, thus sparing the rest of the books.

Once things with Monkian calm down, the kittens use a water-activated monster pellet to distract Lion-O. While he fights with the decoys, the twins scurry off to set the last of their traps. Trouble is, they get lost in one of the maze's side caves. And wouldn't ya know it? This particular side cave is home to a huge snake that promptly tries to have the kittens for dinner!

The twins end up escaping the snake thanks to another pellet-produced monster. However, WilyKat's wild ride on the deflating pellet monster sends both Thunderkittens into a chasm. They hang perilously to the slippery walls of the chasm with lava bubbling below them.

Lion-O, in the meantime, has made it to the cave's exit -- the tree he needs to reach to be victorious in sight.  He stops when he hears the kittens' anguished cries for help. Although he suspects they might be trying to trick him, he does what any self-respecting icon of smarm would do, and goes to make sure the kids are okay.

Lion-O tries to climb down the wall to rescue them, only to nearly lose his grip and fall. Conveniently, the underground cave dwellers grab Lion-O just in time and pull him to safety. Hm. Amazing how strong those little dudes apparently are. Anyway, they proceed to rescue Kit and Kat.

Lion-O introduces the kittens to his new friends, and some interesting dialogue followed:
WilyKat (incredulously): You stopped to make *friends*?
Lion-O: Heck, why not. Oh, and I also knitted these adorable mittens for you. ~holds out a lovely pair of pink mittens ~

Ok, so....maybe that`s not quite verbatim. Anyhow, Lion-O gets the last joke in as they stand near the cave's exit. The kittens are thrilled to learn Lion-O never reached the tree. They try to make a run for it in a last ditch effort to win, but Lion-O was wily enough to have tied them to a rock with their own lariats.

Fave Quote:

"Those pestiferous Thunderkittens!" -- Jackalman, describing the pre-teen feline duo.

A Curiosity:

Why in holy heck is the Maze of Infinity's maze shaped like the freakin Eye of Thundera? We are still on Third Earth, aren't we? haha. I do have a theory about that, but I shan't bore you with it...

leppardra: OMG, the Maze of Infinity DOES look like the Cat Signal! I never noticed that before! But it throws in an interesting speculation: Maybe the ThunderKittens chose this particular underground maze because it does look like the Eye of Thundera. But I guess the real question is why did the ANIMATORS chose to make the Maze of Infinity look like the ThunderCat Signal. The answer might be interesting!

leppardra: This is a rather delightful story. And, yes, it has the requisite "Kat and Kit screw up/Kat and Kit have to be rescued" ingredient. But once again the animation is pretty good, and (sigh) Lion-O looks handsomer than usual.
