Leonard Starr Reviewed by: Purrsia ![]() The Thunderkittens are making a map of the surrounding area for Tygra when they come upon a kinda dilapidated tower. Before they can investigate, a Wolo (a first appearance by this tribe of 3rd Earthling) is robbed by some stony looking fellows. Kit and Kat follow the robbers to the old tower and Kat promptly comes up missing. Lion-O, of course, sees a stressed out Kit through the eye of the Sword and rushes to help. He and Kit end up going through all sorts of booby traps to reach Kat at the top of the Tower. Once Kat is rescued, they realize the infamous Robber Baron Carnor had been dead for quite sometime, but left some magically animated gargoyles to continue to steal for him. Oh, and the wolo gets back the wedding present for his daughter that was stolen from him. "You said a mouthful, gruesome." --Lion-O, to a beastie within the Baron's tower, after promptly shoving a shield in its mouth. This quote reminds me of a line in Looney tunes where Bugs says "ok, tall green and gruesome...." heehee The Sword was used as a pole vault to get Lion-O and Kit up a funky flight of stairs. The swimming scene where Lion-O is damn near naked, heh heh. And for that reason alone, I'm giving the ep 5 insignias....Jaga bless Leonard Starr! Whooo-hoooo! (Not showing a bit of Lion-O bias, am I? heehee). PKELL: Now this is how you do an episode that doesn't include Mumm-Ra or The Mutants. This is one of the better episodes for The Thunderkittens, whose knack for getting into trouble fits this episode perfectly.

- I liked the mystery behind Baron Carnor, and then we get hit with a huge swerve at the end. It was very good writing.
-
- NOTE: The Gargoyle Theives appear again in Season 2's "The Sound Stones" but as guardians of Soundora's temple. Is it possible that Carnor and Soundora had the same magic? Did Carnor steal them away from Soundora or vice versa? Or were the animators lazy and just decided to use the same model hoping nobody but geeks like me would notice. Yeah that sounds most likely. Pfisiar: I don't know about the Sound Stones, but this is deffinitely in my top 10 episodes. I am a Thunderkittens fan and this is one of their good moments. They really didn't do anything wrong, just overambitious.
-
- I like how the Sword didn't really save them and Lion-O had to rely on his wits to win. Shaun B.: This episode sure scared me as a kid. These nasty traps Lion-O and Wiley-Kit went through were bad enough...but what really threw me for a loop was the decayed, mummified visage of Baron Karnor, as our heroes discover he's been dead for years...most likely centuries. Even upon recent viewings, I had flashbacks about how it used to make me feel, so I guess the creators did a good job there!
-
- I'm sure other viewers felt the same way, so it'd be nice to hear from them too! Warren H.: Probably the best of all the episodes. There' so much going on! What I like the most is how Lion-O refuses to leave until he's kicked Baron Karnorr's ass. He's even ready to draw first when they "meet"! And the bits of them having a nice, family drive in the 'Tank there near the end were nice. leppardra: One of the best stories. Leonard Starr is my favorite writer of this show, with Peter Lawrence running a close second. Yes, seeing Lion-O in his swimtrunks is fun! But the real joy is seeing him use the Sword to pole-vault over those tricky stairs, with WilyKit hanging onto him for dear life. That scene was one of the inspirations for the fan fic I'm currently doing.
