Pretty damn good, but not quite purrrfect

Luna is itching for a way to travel to New Thundera so that the Lunies might get in the race to be the first to find all the Treasure of Thundera. Vultureman, who is there working on some contraption at Castle Plundarr, and Alluro assure her they have a plan. First, they're going to cat-nap Panthro and "persuade" him to modify Sky Tomb for space travel. And best of all, the way they're going to do it will seal Cheetara's doom : insert much evil cackling here :

At the Lair, Pumyra and Bengali have just taken off in the Feliner for New Thundera on a mission to recover more of the Treasure. Lynx-O takes the first shift monitoring their journey from the Tower of Omens, so Cheetara kicks back for a bit.
As she and Lion-O discuss Panthro's whereabouts, Cheetara is hit with a strong vision courtesy of her sixth sense. She's sure the Berbil village is under heavy assault from the Mutants, and she and Lion-O fly off to help on the Thunderclaw. But when they arrive ready to kick tail, they're shocked to see the Berbils going about their daily business with nary a Mutant in sight. Cheetara is baffled she was so off, but, as another vision hits her, she believes she simply got it wrong. In this vision she sees the Warrior Maidens under attack from the Lunataks.

As Lion-O and Cheetara rush off on another wild goose chase, Vultureman and Alluro pat themselves on the backs about what a brilliant collaboration they've done on the Telepathy Beam - the ultimate in the Mind Fuck. The idea is to plant so many horrible yet wrong images in Cheetara's mind, that she loses confidence in her ability and won't heed it when she feels something real happening. Hence, when they grab Panthro, she gets the vision but figures it's just another false alarm (the only real flaw in this plot is the Sword of Omens - wouldn't it signal Lion-O that Panthro is in danger? Duh)

Panthro is indeed herded off to Sky Tomb to do the Lunies' bidding, unable to refuse thanks to Alluro's power. Meanwhile, to further confuse Cheetara and mask what really happened to Panthro, Vultureman sends her an array of locations and danger he could be in. The 'Cats split up to check all the locations Cheetara sensed, but it's clear Lion-O's faith in her abilities wavered as she is left behind at the Lair. Of course, traps are laid for them in each locale. All of them who went out on that mission are captured (it was fun to see the statue idols help get Lion-O).

What's worse is the Feliner gets in trouble while in orbit, and Cheetara has to help them remotely from the Lair. But her confidence is so broken, she second guesses herself. The Feliner is saved, but the mission has to be aborted and Cheetara feels like crap as a result. She then confides in Lynx-O about what has shaken her so.

Back at Dark Side, Panthro is almost done modifying Sky Tomb, and the others are locked up in a cage. Once they get airborne and in space, their plan is to jettison the Thundercats in deep space (guess the Lunies didn't realise that's no problem given they can apparently breathe in space lol!). At Castle Plundarr, Vultureman gleefully bombards Cheetara with image on top of image of all her friends meeting cruel fates.

Luckily, Lynx-O has detected unusual atmospheric conditions and concludes it's a psycho-electric field of some sort. Cheetara then realizes taht someone is playing with her mind. However, she's so overwhelmed she still doesn't know how to tell the fake imagery from the real. Lynx-O gives her that famous listen to your heart speech here. And loookout when that woman does her self-actualization!

She unleashes such power, she not only destroys the Telepathy Beam, but takes out Sky Tomb's engines, and puts the Sword of Omens in the hands of Lion-O - and all from a distance. Hello telekinesis! No battle really takes place as the Lunies see the incoming Feliner and decide it's time to run.
At the end, we get a fun lesson in how ya gotta believe in yourself.

Fave Quotes:

"My sixth sense has never been this strong before. The images are sharp, distinct." - Cheetara, as she was fed horrible images of things happening to her friends. And the unusual clarity should have been her first clue something was truly wrong, heh heh.

Cheetara: "I was sure you were being enslaved."
Robear-Bill: "Not today."

Vultureman: "All we have to do is plant enough phony images in Cheetara's mind and soon her sixth sense won't be worth two cents!"

"It's a good thing you're wearing your thermal Thunderwear, kitties, you're going to need it." -- Chilla, right before she ices the Thunderkittens.

"This ought to blow Cheetara's mind. Literally." - Vultureman.

"I am Cheetara. In my heart I know I'm the strongest of my kind. The pride of my people. I am unique in this universe. And I will not be defeated!" - Cheetara, laying the smackdown on Vultureman's mind blowing machine.

Canon Fact of Note:

Establishes Cheetara can also focus her power and be telekinetic.

It's also asserted here that after her ordeal, Cheetara's sixth sense won't drain her to use as it had in the past. Interesting!

saltygirl: this was a cool ep. pretty good animation quality throughout. usu some of the ep will have a moment of janky animation, like the usu animators got tired & handed that scene over to the interns. - - but yes, cool & very different. go, cheetara, go!

leppardra: This is a wonderful episode, one of the best the series ever produced. Splendidly animated, the story is perfectly Cheetara-centered. Lynx-O temporarily becoming a ThunderCat shrink is a very minor irritaiton, for Cheetara's breakaway from Vultureman's telepathy beam is awesome, revealing her to be telekinetic as well as telepathic. A gold star to Kimberly Morris for writing this wonderful story.
