5. Pumm-Ra

Pretty damn good, but not quite purrrfect

Mumm-Ra devises a perty swell scheme to get those blasted ThunderCats, and their little snarf, too. First, he has his Mutie comrades drug Cheetara and capture her. Next, he takes on the form of a Thunderian and poorly dubs himself "Pumm-Ra". Either the ThunderCats are dumb enough not to make the obvious connection when they subsequently meet Pumm-Ra, or the writers made the name similar for the sake of not confuzzling the little 'uns watching the show.

Anyway, they allow Pumm-Ra to stay at the Lair out of greatfullness for his "saving" Cheetara, but are hesitant to fully take him into the fold. No matter. While the ThunderCats are dallying about in a council meeting trying to decide whether to outright accept Pumm-Ra or put him on probation, the ole puma is having the time of his life tearing up the Lair and the ThunderTank. He also figures out how to get into the Sword chamber (wouldn't ya know it. The Tcats used a 1,000 year old Egyptian tomb gimmick to lock that chamber...and just who else happens to be 1,000 years old and from Egypt? heh heh) and swipes the Sword of Omens.

The plot thickens when the other ThunderCats venture out, leaving Lion-O and Snarf alone with Pumm-Ra at the Lair. A bit later, Lion-O realizes the Lair has been sabotaged and the Sword is missing. Confronting Pumm-Ra, Lion-O learns the awful truth. Pumm-Ra makes the mistake of trying to use the Sword for evil intent. This opens the door for Lion-O and his fellow felines to deliver a swift ass-kicking to Pumm-Ra/Mumm-Ra. Overall, a  nice lesson in first impressions.

Fave Quote:

"The mystic Sword of Omens cannot be used for evil. Attempt it, and know the wrath of Jaga." --Jaga.

Canon Facts of Note:

Tygra clocks Cheetara's speed at 30 seconds for the mile.

We also discover that Jaga chose Tygra to be  head of the ThunderCats Council.

Mumm-Ra confirms that he's been skulking about for at least 1,000 years.

This 'sode marks the Tcats first up-close gander at Mumm-Ra.

For the Trivia Books:

This episode marks the only variation in the series of Mumm-Ra's famous transformation incantation : "Ancient Spirits of Evil, transform this ancient body to Mumm-Ra, the Everliving."

Something I find odd:

As Pumm-Ra is ran-sacking the Lair in search of the Sword, he comes upon a weapons room loaded with ray guns, etc...weapons we see the ThunderCats actually use in nary an episode, heh heh.
