Barney Cohen & Julian Gardner Reviewed by: Purrsia ![]() Here, we learn that Tygra just can't say no. This installment of the series is trippy indeed....and I mean that literally. The show opens with a series of earthquakes. Tygra goes out to investigate and falls down a fissure created by another series of quakes. He runs into the Mole Men, and at first think they are responsible for the geological rumblings. However, he gets distracted by a huge yellow worm that leaves a trail of sparkling slime. Tygra follows the perty slime and finds Silky, basically a corn stalk with a face, waiting to bait him with fruit. After munching on the fruit, Tygra goes on a wild, mind-bending hallucination and we learn Silky is really Mumm-Ra --- that devious terd! Tygra goes on to act the strung out junkie until he is so dependent on the fruit, Mumm-Ra is able to convince him to steal the Sword of Omens. Mummsie is happier than a snarf hopped up on Candy Fruit to finally have the SoO in his grasp. He becomes quite peeved when he can't control its power. He gets the wise idea to summon Willa to wield the Sword in his stead. Since she is a pure spirit, she is able to summon the Sword's powers, including Second Sight. So with Tygra still under his green thumb and Willa brandishing the Sword, Mumm-Ra promptly puts the ThunderCats in their place. Luckily, Willa and Tygra wise up in time to avert disaster. "What in the cats eyed cosmos?" -- Tygra At one point in the battle scene, the Mutants use their writst bands to teleport somewhere. But with their ship beneath the Desert of Sinking Sands, it's hard to say where to they vanished. And also odd they never used that trick more often.... PKELL: The first half of this episode is weird what with Silky the Fairy and the giant worm. However, it all pays off in a strong Act II where Mumm-Ra uses Willa to use The Sword of Omens and take over Cat's Lair with The Mutants help. Of course in the end, Willa helps the T-Cats win, but this is a strong episode as this is the second time Mumm-Ra has taken over Cat's Lair and taken the Sword, making him once again appear as a formidable foe for The Thundercats.

- This is not the first time Tygra would become addicted to another power. Season 3's "The Keystone" has him getting addicted to a magical artifact, and that epsidoe represents the anti drug message in a much more serious and effective light. PKELL: CORRECTION: The Season 3 Epsisode I was referencing is "Crystal Canyon" My bad. Captain Shiner: There's a fabulous moment in this episode where the thundercats see Willa and Nayda are seen in the distance with a drugged up Tyrga. Then that creepy music comes on, and Mumm-ra and the mutants appear either side of them and Mumm-ra is still in mummified form. Seriously, this was one of the show's most mature, and at times most confusing, stories. One would think the Sword of Omens wouldn't have let Tygra remove it from the Sword Chamber. Willa summoning the Eye of Thundera's power means anybody with a pure heart can do it, and this scene was another inspiration for my current fan fic.
