Art by Art Wetherell & Williamson, and Peters Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. Lion-O and the other Thundercats are the prisoners of Captain Shiner. Tygra and Bengali have traced them to a cavern in the Ice Mountains, where they are being offered for sale to the highest bidder - and that includes the Mutants, Safari Joe and the Berserkers. Tygra turns to the Thundercats' allies, the Warrior Maidens, the Berbils, the Snowmen of Hook Mountain and the Tuskas for help, only to be told that they doubt what they can practically do in the circumstances. After a brief pep talk, they change their minds and head out to save the other Thundercats. Meanwhile, Mumm-Ra has arrived at the auction! 'Cheetara and the Swarm Monster' by Sophie Heath (text story) Cheetara is feeling tired and troubled and snaps at her friends. Deciding she needs a break, she heads for the Garden of Delights, where she falls asleep. She wakes up feeling refreshed and saddened by her behaviour towards her friends. Wanting to apologise, she heads for home, only to lose her way and wandered into the clutches of the Midge Swarm Monster. Knowing that too many bites can prove fatal, she starts to spin very fast and draws the midges into a vast tornado. Cheetara escapes and hurries back to the Lair to tell her friends just how much she values them. Reprint of Map of Thundera - Part One Reprint of 'World in Chaos! Judgement Day!' (Part Two in original issue, now called Part Three - original chapters have been split) By Simon Furman (plot), Ian Rimmer (script), Jeff Anderson (pencils) & Stephen Baskerville (inks) #98 FRIENDS IN NEED PART 3 ![]() Issued July 1989 Written by Dan Abnett. Cover art: Gary Frank with Stephen Baskerville. Colour by John Burns. Art by Art Wetherell & Williamson, and Peters Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. Bengali causes a distraction while Tygra frees the other Thundercats. Lion-O retrieves the Sword of Omens, thanks to Tygra's invisibility, and they prepare to do battle, although they are vastly outnumbered. They have, however, brought their friends. The Berbils appeared, armed with weapons; the Warrior Maidens make light work of Safari Joe; the Snowmen tackle the Berserkers; and the Tuskas pick up Captain Shiner. Seeing this, Mumm-Ra flees. The Thundercats and their friends celebrate at Cats' Lair with a might feast, leaving Lion-O to quip that their allies are 'friends in deed'. 'Bad Medicine!' (text story) Lion-O is injured and the Thundercats are facing defeat at the hands of the Mutants. A beautiful girl appears, called Domin-a, claiming to have magical healing powers. She promises to save Lion-O if the Thundercats will save her from Mumm-Ra. They agree and she works her magic on Lion-O. He rapidly improves and by the third day is ready to do battle once more, although he still suffers from strange lapses in memory, which make him suddenly frozen to the spot. Snarf, meanwhile, is entranced with Domin-a and, following her one day, catches her plotting with Mumm-Ra. It seems she is able to control his memory and he will only be freed by a rare white flower found only in the quicksands at the dark side of the Forest of Giant Insects. Without delay, Snarf rushes to find the flower. Mumm-Ra's plan is to defeat the Thundercats in battle and, when Lion-O freezes, he thinks his plan has worked. Lion-O is only pretending, however, since Snarf was successful in finding the flower. Mumm-Ra is defeated and everyone says what a jolly good chap Snarf is! Reprint of Map of Thundera - Part Two Reprint of 'World in Chaos! Judgement Day!' (second half of Part Two in original issue, now called Part Four) By Simon Furman (plot), Ian Rimmer (script), Jeff Anderson (pencils) & Stephen Baskerville (inks) #99 THROUGH A DARK GLASS Issued August 1989 Written by Gerry Conway. Art by Ramos, Springer and Scotese The first story covers part one of the US issued Star comic of the same name (Click here for that review). It also includes a text story, Dangerous Games. Wilykit, WilyKat and Snarf are all out on a beautiful summer day, chasing one another and otherwise frolicking. That is, until WilyKit doesn't watch where she's running and goes right off a cliff. Snarf and Kat manage to pull her to safety and all is well. Lastly, another comic adventure rounds out the issue. It seems to be part of a series called World of Chaos: Friend or Foe. In this installment, the Mutants are angry at Mumm-Ra for not warning them that he's bringing about catastrophic weather phenomenon in an effort to bring about 'fourth Earth'. The Mutants fear they'll be destroyed, and though Mumm-Ra feigns concern, he couldn't care less about the mangy Mutants. Meanwhile, Cheetara and Tygra are on Hook Mountain braving frigid temperatures and cutting winds in order to do their part in completing the Jaga's Mystic Map (apparently, the destruction of the first Map at Mumm-Ra's hand is what's causing Third Earth to die). A 'glacierquake' causes the pair to fall into a fissure. Cheetara manages to get free, thanks to her staff. But Tygra plummets below and Cheetara thinks him lost forever. And that's where this installment ended. #100 WORLD IN CHAOS: FRIEND OR FOE? (Reprint) ![]() Issued September 1989 Written by By Simon Furman (plot) and Ian Rimmer (script). Art by Hill, Harwood, and Place Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. 'Thundercats... Framed!' (text story) Preparations are underway at Cats' Lair to celebrate the anniversary of the old Thundercats reuniting with the new (Bengali, Pumyra & Lynx-O). Everyone is excited, except Snarf, who seems to be worried about something. He leaves the Lair on the morning of the party and goes missing. Meanwhile, a visitor calls at the Lair, calling himself 'Papa Ratsie' of the firm, 'Ratsie & Sons'. It turns out he is a portrait photographer and has been contracted by Snarf to take a group portrait of the Thundercats. Just as he is about to take the picture, Snarf arrives with the real Papa Ratsie. The imposter is exposed as Mumm-Ra, who was planning to trap the Thundercats in a Dimension Cage device built into his camera. Lion-O defeats him and Mumm-Ra ends up trapped in the Dimension Cage. The real Papa Ratsie reveals how Mumm-Ra imprisoned him and shape-changed into him to trick the Thundercats. He takes the picture and everyone is happy! Reprint of Map of Thundera - Part Four Reprint of 'Through a Dark Glass' Part Two By Gerry Conway (story), Rodney Ramos & Frank Springer (art), Rick Parker (lettering) & Petra Scotese (colour) #101 TO THE VICTOR, THE SPOILS Issued October 1989 Written by Gerry Conway. Art by Delbo and Scotese This issue also features a story covered in the US issued Star comic of the same name (Click here for that review). It also has an installment of World of Chaos: Friend or Foe. It picks up shortly after the events in the segment featured in issue #99. Tygra's fall was broken by the Vortex, however it's reluctant to let Tygra go free. Meanwhile, Cheetara is fighting Vultureman and the Snowmen of Hook Mountain have bets going on the winner. Apparently, she's struck a deal with the Snowmen - she'll rid them of the attacking Vultureman if they help her find Tygra. She ultimately defeats Vultureman, but then disagrees as to how the Snowmen want to punish the Mutant. It looks like it may come to blows between her and the Snowmen. In the fissure, Tygra manages to break free of the Vortex's hold on him, and lands on a beach. Unfortunately, the crabmen are not pleased that he dropped in. It looks grim for old stripes until Cheetara shows up with the Snowmen to drive the crabmen off. Now, their part of the map is complete. Only a bit more to go and they will save Third Earth. #104 QUEEN OF 8 LEGS Issued January 1990 Written by Steve Perry. Art by Mooney, Colletta and Severin This issue includes the conclusion to the story covered in the US issued Star comic of the same name (Click here for that review). Following is a comic adventure called Footprints. It's the tale of the dreaded Metokangmi, a Yeti-esque creature that comes out of its cave at Rammastide and leaves a path of destruction. This year, Cats Lair is in its path and the king of the Snowmen rushes in to warn the 'Cats. We also learn that when Tygra designed Cat's Lair, he hadn't counted on it needing a good heater (?), a back door, or sound-proofing, hehe. At any rate, the Lair is spared without a fight, as the lovelorn creature is lulled by the Lair's beastly resemblance to itself. #106 FLIGHT OF THE NETHERWITCH PT 2 Issued 24 February 1990 Written by Steve Allen. Art by Wetherell, Bouttell Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. The second and final part of a story about Wilykit and Wilykat being taken prisoner by the evil Netherwitch. To everyone's surprise, who should save them but Lynxana! The Enemy Below Part 2 Reprint of an earlier story involving the Thundercats' battle against the Midge Monster. Issue also featured a reprint of the Cheetara Fact File. #107 GRAVEYARD OF MEMORIES Issued March 1990 Written by Gerry Conway. Art by Delbo and Scotese Again, there's a reprint of the US issued Star comic of the same name (Click here for that review) - this issue contains the first part of that story. Also included, is another comic adventure named Double Jeopardy (a reprint of issue 66, here). It has a very similar plot to a prior star comic adventure (Through a Dark Glass). The kittens are out being curious, when they come upon some weird pods in the forest. Lion-O and Cheetara approach and the kittens think they're in trouble for venturing off on their own - until Lion-O starts acting far more arrogant than normal. They realize that this Lion-O and Cheetara must have come from the pods and are duplicate imposters, but the duplicates stuff the kittens in two of the pods and go off to make mischief of their own. Meanwhile at Cats Lair, the real ThunderCats are trying to get a berbil and Hammerhand to make peace. During a break in the talks, the imposters show up, insult both Berzerker and berbil and all but wreck the conference. Presumably the adventure will conclude in the next issue.
