Art by Griffiths, Place In this issue, Mumm-Ra decides to set the ThunderCats straight by threatening their allies - so he goes and burns the Berbil Village. Enraged, Lion-O declares that the ThunderCats (save for Kit and Kat who stay on Lair watch duty) will go to the Black Pyramid to confront Mumm-Ra once and for all. The problem is, it's a lot tougher than they thought. Once inside, Mumm-Ra has each ThunderCat a prisoner of an illusion so he face Lion-O alone. But before he presumably takes care of Lion-O, Mumm-Ra lets him see what has happened to his friends: Cheetara is trapped in a room with no windows or doors...and the walls are closing in. Panthro is in a devastated Warrior Maiden forest; devastated by robots he had been building to protect his friends. Tygra is back at his appartment on Thundera, letting a pair of attractive ThunderCats (Leopara and Cougara) convince him to relax and forget about Lion-O. If and when they escape their own hells born of illusion is revealed in the next issue... #18 ASSAULT ON THE ONYX PYRAMID Issued 18 July 1987 Written by James Hill. Art by Griffiths, Place All illusions are revealed in this concluding issue, starting with the fact that Lion-O being in the Pyramid fighting Mumm-Ra was his own illusion to overcome. Once he realizes this, thanks to Snarf, he's able to use second sight to see the real danger lurking. However, there's the issue of the others and it is the Eye of Thundera shining the light of truth that reveals the true dangers behind the other illusions - illusions designed to take advantage of each 'Cats weakness (Cheetara - confined spaces, Panthro - pride, Tygra - vanity). Though they all overcome their struggles just in time, their assault on the Pyramid was a failed one. #19 THE ENEMY BELOW Issued 25 July 1987 Written by Gerry Conway. Art by Delbo, Gordon Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. The Thundercats go to the aid of the peaceable fisherfolk, the Nai, who are being terrorised by the Berserkers. Led by Horak the Axe-Wielder, their captain, the pirates captured the Nai and made them their slaves. Drella, a bubbly-haired member of the tribe, managed to escape and came asking the Thundercats for their help. Lion-O wants to go rushing to their aid, although Cheetara seems less than happy, accusing Lion-O of being swayed by Drella's beauty rather than using his head before involving the Thundercats in this war. Lion-O keeps his word, however, and before long, the Thundercats are battling the Berserkers at the Nai village. Meanwhile, Lion-O and Drella attempt to cut the pirates' ships loose, only to be attacked. In the fight, he loses the Sword of Omens and asks Drella to retrieve it for him. She says she can't, because being peaceful folk, she could never use a weapon. Back at the village, things are starting to go wrong and they wonder what's become of Lion-O. Still locked in his struggle with the pirate, he manages to break free at last, finally realising that Drella's unwillingness to fight is why she involved the Thundercats in this battle. #24 BERZERKER RAGE PART 2 Issued 29 August 1987 Written by Gerry Conway. Art by Delbo, Gordon Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. Seeing their ships floating away, the pirates hurry away from the village to retrieve them, although the Thundercats know that soon they will be back. While the Nai celebrate, Lion-O wonders what he is to do if the Nai won't help themselves. Jaga appears and reminds him that the strong must help the weak even if they won't protect themselves. The Berserkers return, this time intent on destroying the village and the Thundercats face them alone. Vastly outnumbered, the Thundercats realise they don't stand a chance, until suddenly the Nai have a change of heart and rush to join the battle. Lion-O takes on Horak in single combat, only to lose the Sword of Omens again. This time, Drella throws it back to him and he defeats Horak. The pirates leave, perhaps for good now the Nai have shown that they are capable of defending themselves.
