Production News:
Here's a tidbit of breaking news. I've been in recent contact with Peter Lawrence via email, and he so kindly gave his permission for me to publish his email in the Bulletin.
I asked him for updates on the various ThunderCat revival projects he's trying to launch, in addition to other stuff he's involved in. I must admit, the other series he's working on sounds very intriguing indeed. I'll definitely be on the lookout for that show :) And thank you once again, Peter, for sharing with the fans!
Hi, Purrsia ...
thanks for your e-mail. I enjoyed the chat, too. As I've said before, it's
astonishing and humbling to relaize how many people the show reached.
As to new ThunderCats projects, various of the original production team have
talked about the possibility of new series, 3-D, TV movies, theatrical
movies, and perhaps even a live action piece. The deciding factor, of
course, is Warners - who now own all the rights. Even if Warners decided to
produce something, there's no guarantee that any of the original group would
be involved. In fact, knowing the way this business works, it's rather
unlikely. We shall see. (Then again, some T/Cat fans are writing and
proposing their own shows. They have all the energy and enthusiasm -
and a detailed understanding of everything ThunderCat. Let's hope they succeed.)
As to my own projects, I have an animated movie, WAY OF THE CAT, in
pre-roduction. It has some similarities, I suppose, to ThunderCats - at
least in the fact that the "people" in it are evolved feline and canine
humanoids. But the world, the sensibilities, the tone, story, etc. are very
different. We've completed the development designs and the screenplay
in in progress. We're thinking about 3-D. Again, we shall see.
I'm working on THE WAY OF THE CAT with Masaki Iizuka, of PAC
(ThunderCat animators), and with Iris Productions, who produced KIRIKOU, THE
SORCERESS and THE BLUE ARROW, and with whom I've been workoing on GLOBI AND THE
STOLEN SHADOWS (a kids movie based on a European storybook hero - a parrot!
It's currently in production - again with PAC animating - and should be
released early next year).
You're welcome to publish this if you wish - though it's pretty sparse!
Best wishes,
Peter
