Era Two -- Third Earth Adventures: The Dark Times
- A New Decade:
Era Two's prologue; it takes a look at the Thundercats roughly ten years following the conclusion of Era One, as well as how their enemies are managing. Everyone has settled into a routine, and relative peace has been the way on Third Earth since Mumm-Ra is still out of commission. Jax also finds his way back to Third Earth, as civil war on his home planet of Plund-arr afforded him a chance to drift among the stars and find his way back.
- Heavenly Nobodies:
The Thundercats pick up on an old Thunderian signal and realize it's a homing frequency, used to guide any wayward refugees to the original destination planet. Though excited to realize some of their brethren may have made it 'home' and feeling the pull to join them, there is the issue of leaving Third Earth undefended. Or, worse yet, pests like Grune and the Mutants following them to the new planet. Lion-O remains rigidly determined to find a way around these issues, restless now to remain marooned on Third Earth when his greater destiny calls. Meanwhile, the Thunderians who have made it to what they called New Thundera are coping without their legendary and heroic nobles, most of them believing the nobles perished with Thundera. They're led by Lynxana, the former hunter, who is not at all eager to see the Thundercats show up there. Torr, here but a teen, dreams of the day that he can meet a real Thundercat and has not given up hope that someday they'll come home.
- The Slim:
Just when the Thundercats have gotten used to the peaceful life, making the chances of ultimate tragedy seem less likely to touch them, things take a dramatic, sorrowful turn. One among their number dies suddenly, leaving the rest of them behind to cope with the loss, and the deceased confused in the Astral World.
- Your Ghost:
Tygra is chosen to be interim Lord of the ThunderCats until Leon comes of age. Lion-O's body is committed in the Ceremony of Rites back to the stars. Lion-O's ghost tries in several ways to make contact with Felina, but all are explained away by Felina and ineffective. Only Jonca can see her father's ghost but she cannot hear him, while the other kids remain skeptical that she can see him at all.
- Shadow Play:
WilyKat thinks back to the day that changed the life in the Lair and mulls over his guilt in the matter, while Tygra struggles to lead in Lion-O's stead. Many of the Thundercats are upset with Tygra for not yet acting to avenge Lion-O's death, but Tygra's tendency to over-plan and his lack of a strong bond with the Sword of Omens gives him pause, among other things. Mumm-Ra returns, as Tygra feared, but their first face-off came off better than his nightmares. It was still little consolation to Tygra and Cheetara worries that her fears of bonding long ago had more to do with the Sword's relationship with its Lord than anything. Felina becomes fixated on a powerful spell to lift Lion-O from the dead, and it is decided that the Book be kept from her while she remains irrational. Jonca, after being disbelieved, no longer sees her fathers ghost. His one connection with those left behind severed, Lion-O's spirit reels into a pattern that would doom him if Jaga cannot stop it.
- Put It Behind You:
Torr urges the council on New Thundera to launch a search for the old noble Thundercats. The suggestion was met with anger by Lynxana, the Council's leader, as an unfair focus on a small group of refugees nobody can confirm even survived. A beacon had been made, its signal designed to guide any survivors home. He would just have to wait and see if the nobles are among the small groups wandering in now and then. Lynxana has her deeper reasons for wishing to leave the old ways behind, hoping to never see the Thundercats again. Back on Third Earth, Grune, Mumm-Ra and the Mutants make a pact to take down the Thundercats together and send Jax to spy to determine the right time. Lion-O's spirit is saved from an unsavory fate by Jaga, who hopes he can convince the restless soul to let go of his desire to stay earth-bound. The Thundercats, meanwhile, attend a wake of sorts thrown by the Warrior Maidens. Felina is given a bird used in a life and death ceremony by the tribal women, and set it free with her children and Snarf, at the place where Lion-O made his last stand as a symbol of letting go.
- Vision Valley:
Lion-O is cast in the Vision Valley - the place in the Astral World where psychic impulses of the universe thrive. As long as he struggles against it, Lion-O must remain there. On Third Earth, Tygra comes up with the League of Third Earth and the idea of the Tower of Omens to help their friends cope after the Thundercats depart for their new home. Panthro is agreeable until the part involving Tygra going through his own anointment Trials. Tygra insists, and Bengali will be his first challenger. Cheetara is not happy about this development, but their enemies love it and plan to use the vulnerable moment to launch their assault. That night in a dream, Lion-O uses what he learned about mind power along with his location's energy to summon Cheetara to him in a dream and warn her of Grune's plans, as he had tried to warn before through Jonca. When Cheetara awakes, Tygra is already begun his Trial and she must rush to him before it is too late.
